Earlier this year, SOAR - the Southwestern Ohio Aerospace Region - was designated as an area of aerospace development by the IMCP. This designation gives the region priority in federal funding. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May of 2013, Dayton had more than 7 times as many aerospace engineers per 1000 jobs than in the nation as a whole. In this podcast, we investigate the effects this new funding will have on the amount of jobs in the aerospace industry in this region. We predicted that this extra funding should allow employers spend more on hiring, training, and paying new employees. David and Bharath on the impact of the growth of the medical industry on the local economy

This podcast from David Sills and Bharath Ramini discusses the microeconomic and macroeconomic factors that influence growth in the United States’ medical industry. Local areas that were influenced were considered microeconomic, and national influences were considered macroeconomic. They found research indicating a large increase in the number of hospitals nationally and hypothesized that employment opportunities in health fields would increase as a result. Their hypothesis was proven correct based on data retrieved from their interview and research, which suggested that a direct correlation existed between growth in the health industry and employment opportunities; more health facilities allowed more access of health services to people, and as a result, created a higher demand for jobs that were related to health services.
